The Oregon Beef Council (needs to eat more greens)

The camera on my cell phone takes better pictures than my digital camera.

I think this is a good thing, as I am always carrying my phone around.

Here's a really offensive billboard I saw yesterday while riding up Williams?...Vancouver? The one that goes North.

BleakBleackBarfGROSS! Are people really driving up the road salivating over that picture, thinking "yeah, fuck those vegetarians, more meat for me"? I especially like the parsly in the foreground. Nice try guys.

Who is the Oregon Beef Council, and what is this billboard supposed to inspire people to do?

Here's something to balance out the grossness of the previous picture:

Those are some ferns growing peacefully in the park.

The cell phone camera seems to be great at capturing greens. That was always a problem with film.

Juice in the VitaMix

So lately, food wise, my life hasn't been too interesting. I eat salads or smoothies, and that's about it. Oh, and mangos. This is me visiting my old garden last week while carrying a backpack full of cheap mangos on my back. The backpack weighed about 40 pounds, but I was also carrying some juice, which was about half the weight.

Do you see them poking out of my backpack?

You will not believe that I got all those mangos for five dollars at Limbo at SE 39th and Schiller. And they were organic. And they were GOOD.

Yes, it's okay to be jealous.

I was going to take a picture of the pile but we ate them up too fast.

So on to this post topic. Lately, I have been very inspired by Angela Stokes juice feast, and have started juicing in the VitaMix. It's very easy to do, and the juice is soooo smooth.

I've been really into celery juice with greens. In particular, I have been juicing a lot of beet greens. I learned from Dylan at Food Front that swiss chard is actually a watered down version of beet greens. Instead of going into the FoodFront compost, the beet greens now go into my belly on days I work there.

These are some combos I like:

  • celery, lemon, spinach, parsley, and cucumber
  • celery, lemon, kale, and red pepper
  • Umm, basically anything with celery, lemon, and greens.
  • straight up grapefruit juice, with the occasional blood orange.
  • This morning I strayed from the celery lemon combos and had granny smith apples and kale. YUM.
  • Yesterday I took my juice to a whole new level by adding spirulina to it. Oh, that was great. I had sustained energy with out getting almost unfunctionally mellow, which has been happening to me with the green juices.

I love my VitaMix. Almost as much as the kitties. But I do wish it could morph itself into a GreenStar on command. Maybe in the next version...

And since you may have forgotten what the kitties look like:

And Ralph, with a very funny look on his face doing the thing he does best: chillin' on some newspaper.

The cats are taking VitaMineral greens!  At first they weren't sure, but the second time I gave them some, they LICKED it clean off the plate.

Blog Consolidation

I'm consolidating my blogs. This blog will be no more in a week. Please subscirbe to the raw vegan recipe blog instead. Until consolidation, I will be posting the same entry on each one for a smooth transition.

byCycle Store

By the way, my work is also for sale at byCycle's online store. The online store is one of the only ways they earn money for their wonderful public service project.

New Store

I've created a simple cafepress store selling items printed with images from my gallery. I am using this119233684v9_240x240_Front.jpg cafepress site as a way to earn money to begin printing greeting cards and clothing using local printers instead of cafepress. All items in the store are marked at $5 over the price cafepress charges me. I will continue to add and change the products in the store, so do check back often.

The store has American Apparel shirts (american made, sweatshop free clothing company), clothing items for kids and babies, packages of greeting cards and postcards, a calendar, and my favorite, the mini pin.

I welcome any feedback about the store. Please also write if you would like an image printed on a particular product.

The store is linked under the navigation to the right.

(This has been posted under both blogs, sorry for the repeat!)
